First of all, to build an strong class identity is necessary to gain a deep understanding of your market, players and rulers. The second step is to be open to exchange ideas and knowledge with others. Let’s start from the beginning: Marketing isn’t all about parties, spectacular events and gifts for free like mugs. I learnt this hard true in the very young age, when I started my career in the department of marketing in a big corporation. I’ve always known that building campaigns with data, insights and technology were my thing so I tried to follow it up, but Marketing in general is much more than that.
The marketing career in Australia is a path for strong, creative and passionate people with real desire to innovate and be the best in their field, especially because the market changes all the time and the ability to be flexible is highly regarded. Believe or not, the career in Marketing isn’t among the TOP 10 high demand careers in Australia compared for example with careers in I&T, Engineering, Accounting, Nursing, Child career which have high levels of professional shortage. However, areas such as Digital, SEO, Programmatic, AI, CRM, Branding & Content area always requiring qualified people with entrepreneurial vision and the industry predicts a growth of 21.1% in the next 5 years.
There is not much difference between how marketers see themselves across the world. In general, the behavior is quite similar: Marketers are mainly like-minded people with high doses of knowledge about many trending stuff: from the fashion industry to the commodity trading world, who also keep their minds up to do date, well-informed and busy creating new things. isn’t it the real us?
The challenge in marketing across the globe is still to prove the return of investment across all channels, especially those related to subliminal efforts that take place because they’re immeasurable and unaccountable, not like click-through rates or generating sales leads in a business event. Building reputable brands take a while and most of the time a giant effort that companies make allocating their budget annually to stay in front of their competitors and in the imagination of their customers.
In short, there is no difference between a marketing department in Australia or any other offices across the world. For sure, there are cultural differences to be mindful of in each country for sure i.e Latino American cultures are extroverted, friendly, and fun meanwhile Australians tend to be more casual, witty, and straightforward people. Don’t need to ask why I love working in Australia.
What separates good professionals from bad professionals is the capacity to keep learning different skills, developing entrepreneur mentality, being flexible and most important be good at stress management, otherwise work may kill you. I know many people, including myself who has had burnout syndrome and this isn’t fun. Being resilient in difficult times is what will make you stand out above others at any stage of your career.
I have recently joined the Australia Marketing Institute to formally recognise my skills and experience, keep myself up to date on market trends and practices, exchange and benchmark knowledge and practices with other professionals.
Australian Institute of Marketing is the organization that represents the industry giving parameters for ethical and professional standards in the region. I’m so glad that I earned my Certified Practising Marketer title which is the trust mark of a senior professional Marketer. This title is earned through ethical behavior, depth of experience and currency of knowledge. Its a designation only peak professional benchmark of its kind for Marketers in the Asia-Pacific Region. I’m looking forward to participate in many classes, events and workshops as possible and help other young marketers achieve the greatest in their career journey.
